SIR TERENCE CONRAN

Sir Terence Conran was a trailblazing innovator, a celebrated architect, designer, restaurateur, and writer. Revered worldwide, he was a great British success story and the voice of authority in a bold new era of contemporary design.

At The Conran Shop, Sir Terence Conran embodied his fundamental belief that great design and craftsmanship should be available to everyone. Hailed as modern Britain’s tastemaker, Sir Terence’s insatiable commitment and far-reaching vision sparked inspiration and aspiration in so many, and it is in his distinguished design principles that we continue his legacy.

SIR TERENCE CONRAN 1

“There is no one more responsible for the democratisation of design than Terence. We stand on his shoulders, owing a mighty debt that can only be paid by honouring his dogged belief that form and function have to exist in balance, that simplicity has a unique beauty and that design is not a luxury but a necessity.”

Roger Lewis

Roger Lewis

The British furniture brand, Roger Lewis, has a rich history and heritage rooted in contemporary design. The company was founded by Roger Lewis in the late 1980s, who fell in love with contemporary furniture design while working under the mentorship of Sir Terence Conran in the 1970s.

In 1988, after being approached by iconic retailer Heals to manufacturer his own designs a small British furniture manufacturer was born. Working alongside his wife Pat, Roger took the business from a kitchen table operation to a fully-fledged firm, garnering the attention of an impressive roster of internationally renowned clients over 25 years.

In 2013, the company embarked on a new chapter with the retirement of Roger Lewis and the leadership of the current CEO and owner, Marc Richard. Under Marc’s leadership, the company has continued to apply a fresh and future-facing approach, while also maintaining a strong focus on skill and craftsmanship. This approach has allowed the company to support the commercial design community in meeting the industry’s evolving needs utilising a collaborative service on large volume projects with bespoke capabilities.

In 2021, the company moved to its current headquarters in Frome, Somerset. The focus is now on cultural evolution, investment in our people, a striving for world class manufacturing and journey towards a fully circular and sustainable operation, as part of the CE International group.

Throughout its history, Roger Lewis has been dedicated to producing high-quality, contemporary furniture that is stylish, comfortable and functional. The brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and attention to detail is evident in every piece, and this has helped the company establish a reputation for excellence in the furniture industry.

Today, Roger Lewis remains a highly respected and successful brand within the British furniture industry. With a rich heritage and a commitment to contemporary design, the brand continues to innovate and evolve, while remaining true to its roots
